6 Days Machame Route – Mount Kilimanjaro

After breakfast, you will be picked up and transferred to Machame Gate, where you will complete the necessary registration before beginning your trek. The trail starts through the lush montane rainforest, where you may see different species of birds and monkeys. You will gradually climb through the forest toward Machame Camp, where you will spend the night. The day's hike takes approximately 5–7 hours, depending on the group's pace and conditions.

After breakfast, you will leave the rainforest behind and continue climbing through the moorland zone. The trail becomes steeper as you ascend toward the Shira Plateau, with beautiful views of Mount Meru and the surrounding landscape. After several hours of trekking, you will arrive at Shira Camp, where you will have dinner and spend the night. This day is important for acclimatization as you continue gaining altitude gradually.

Today is an important acclimatization day. You will trek from Shira Camp toward Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 meters before descending to Barranco Camp. The route crosses the alpine desert and provides spectacular views of Kilimanjaro's volcanic landscape. Although this is a longer day, the descent to Barranco helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude. You will arrive at Barranco Camp in the afternoon, enjoy dinner, and rest overnight.

The day begins with the exciting climb of the Barranco Wall. Although it looks challenging from below, the trail is manageable with the assistance of your experienced mountain guides. After reaching the top, you will continue across valleys and ridges toward Karanga Camp. The scenery becomes increasingly dramatic as you approach the higher mountain zones. After arriving at camp, you will have time to rest, eat, and prepare for the final approach toward the summit.

After breakfast, you will trek toward Barafu Camp, the final base camp before the summit. The trail passes through an alpine desert environment with little vegetation. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, you will have an early dinner and receive a briefing from your mountain guide about the summit attempt. You will then rest for several hours because the summit climb begins around midnight.

You will wake around midnight and begin your summit attempt. The climb to Uhuru Peak is slow and steady, taking you across steep scree toward Stella Point on the crater rim. From Stella Point, you will continue along the crater rim until you reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating and taking photographs, you will begin your descent to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down toward Mweka Camp. Dinner and overnight will be at Mweka Camp.
