Introduction to Lemosho Route.
This is a perfect route for amateur Climbers. Spend 8 Days climbing Mount Kilimanjaro will allow relaxation as well as acclimatization and also offers a good balance in the height of the campsites.
Nevertheless, this route gives a beautiful scenic view of the Mountain, as you will passing through forests and traverses. Also, this route has a good success record over 88% to Uhuru Peak and 94% to Stella Point.
Itinerary
After reaching the Londorossi national park gate, you will attend Authorities formalities, you will drive through various farmland with an open landscape view to reach the Lemosho road head.
After 2-3 walking hours you will reach the camp at Lemosho Big Tree camp where you will stay.
After breakfast, the trek will start by transverse through a forest then and enter the moorland zone of giant heather.
The route will take you to the wide views until you reach the rim of the Shira Plateau.
You will camp at Shira camp at (3550m)[6-7 hours walking]
This day will start slowly in order to help acclimatization passing through the volcanic rock formations of Shira Plateau. After some hours of walking, you will reach the next camp at Shira Hut (3,840 m).
This site offers stunning views of Kilimanjaro, here you will experience a closer look at the glaciated dome of Kibo and the jagged rim of Shira Plateau. At Clear days you will easily be sighting the peak of Mount Meru floating above clouds simply unforgettable. [4-5 hours walking]
On day 4, you will have a steep climb up at the Barranco Wall, which will send you on the south-eastern flank of Kibo, here you will enjoy superb vistas of the Southern Icefields. After some hour of walking, you will reach Karanga Camp(4000m), the last water point on the Mountain.
This day you will be having plenty of time to rest, with a short acclimatization walk in the afternoon up the valley above the camp. [4-5 hours walking]
A short but steep climb out of Karanga, and an easy path on compacted scree with wide views to reach Mweka Junction (4,150 m.). We then climb steadily to reach the Barafu campsite (4,600 m.) and continue to the plateau at the bottom of the South-East valley (4,800 m.). The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent before an early night. [4-5 hours walking]
This day trekking will start around 1. am, as you racing to reach the crater rim before sunrise. The steep climb over loose volcanic scree has some well-graded zig-zags and a slow but steady pace will take us to Stella Point (5,735 m.), After about 5 to 6 Hours Mawenzi where you will have a short time to enjoy the sunrise. Then add another two hours to reach Uhuru Peak (5,896 m.), this trail will let you passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area.
After having pictures descent to Barafu will begin surprisingly fast, until you reach a final campsite (3,800 m.) Millennium. [11-15 hours walking]
This day you will continue to descend through a well-constructed path beautified by lovely tropical forest alive with birdsong and boasting lush undergrowth with considerable botanical interest.
For about 4 to 5 walking hours you will reach Mweka Gate (1650M). Here you will sign out at Authorities and be awarded your certificate before leaving Kilimanjaro Mountain
