How fit do I need to be to do this trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is a Grade B or a moderately difficult trekking route. So any fit person can do this trek, even if you do not have any previous experience. You should be aware of what to expect and mentally prepare for it. Then, as long as you will too, you can.

How long do we walk every day when doing Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

On average, you walk about 4 to 6 hours per day. One or two days can be as less as 3hrs and one or two days can be as long as 7hrs.

What is the highest altitude reached in this trek?

The highest altitude reached is 4190m. This is the elevation of Annapurna Base Camp. ABC is the highest we will climb in this trek.

What about battery charging and hot shower facilities?

Yes, you can charge batteries en route. Charger should be brought. There are hot shower facilities as well. You may have to pay a certain amount for both ($1-$2). Negotiate. Also, a hot water facility could be free at a lower elevation.

Are there ATMs on the way to Annapurna Base Camp?

No. There are no ATMs on this trek route. You will have to draw enough cash in Pokhara or Kathmandu. There are a number of ATMs in these cities. Everything is paid in Nepali rupees. So money should be exchanged before the start of the trek.

What about internet access?

Yes. The Internet can be accessed in most places. Sometimes, there might be some technical problems. The Internet in Nepal is not as fast as you are used to and at times you can just lose connection.

Is it necessary to hire Guides/trekking agency for Annapurna Base Camp trekking?

Not really. It depends on you. If you want, ABC trekking can be done independently. You could hire a guide and a porter by yourself instead of going through an agency or not hire a guide at all. Although, not having a guide can be a little problematic during the offseason. It really depends on you. Is it your first time in Nepal? How confident are you of being able to find your way around? How pressed on time are you? If you go through an agency, it will be costlier but everything will be planned. You will only have to come, trek and return.

How much do guides and porters cost?

For the Annapurna region, pay for guides range from $20 to $30 per day and porters take $15 to $25 per day.

The 4 Days Mount Meru Trek is an exciting high-altitude adventure in northern Tanzania and an excellent introduction to mountain trekking before attempting Mount Kilimanjaro.

Mount Meru, at approximately 4,566 metres, is Tanzania’s second-highest mountain. The trek takes you through beautiful montane forest, open grassland and alpine landscapes, with spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro on clear days.

Because Mount Meru is located inside Arusha National Park, the trek can also provide opportunities to see wildlife such as giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes and various bird species during the lower sections of the hike. A ranger accompanies the trekking group because of the wildlife environment.

The 4-day itinerary allows time for acclimatization and includes an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) from Saddle Hut.

Day 1 :

Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut

Walking time: Approximately 4–5 hours
Distance: Approximately 10 km
Elevation: Momella Gate → Miriakamba Hut, about 2,514 m → 2,500 m+

After breakfast, you will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha and driven to Arusha National Park and Momella Gate.

After completing park registration and meeting your mountain crew, the trek begins. The trail passes through beautiful forest and open areas where you may encounter wildlife.

Continue gradually uphill toward Miriakamba Hut, where you will have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2 :

Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut

Walking time: Approximately 3–5 hours
Distance: Approximately 8 km
Elevation: 2,514 m → 3,570 m

After breakfast, begin the climb toward Saddle Hut. The trail becomes steeper as you gain altitude and passes through montane vegetation and heather.

After arriving at Saddle Hut and having lunch, you can take an optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru, reaching approximately 3,820 m before returning to Saddle Hut.

This short acclimatization walk is useful for preparing your body for the summit attempt.

Day 3 :

Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak – Miriakamba Hut

Walking time: Approximately 10–12 hours
Distance: Approximately 13–14 km

You will wake very early, usually around midnight or shortly after, and begin the summit attempt.

The trail climbs through rocky terrain toward Rhino Point and Cobra Point, followed by the ridge toward Socialist Peak.

Reach Socialist Peak (4,566 m) around sunrise, weather and trekking conditions permitting. From the summit, you can enjoy spectacular views over the surrounding landscape and, on clear days, views toward Mount Kilimanjaro.

After spending some time at the summit, descend back to Saddle Hut for a short rest before continuing down to Miriakamba Hut.

Day 4 :

Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha

Walking time: Approximately 3–4 hours

After breakfast, begin your final descent through the forest toward Momella Gate.

After reaching the gate, complete the park formalities and meet your driver for the transfer back to Arusha.

You will arrive in Arusha in the afternoon, marking the end of your Mount Meru adventure.
